We combine aspects of biochemistry, physics, and nanoscale technology to answer difficult questions about biology. Our work relies on techniques ranging from standard methods in molecular biology to surface chemistry and nanoscale engineering to single-molecule fluorescence detection. Applicants with experience using in vitro protein assays, fluorescence spectroscopy, and/or single molecule microscopy will be strongly considered. However, creativity, drive and enthusiasm can go a long way towards making up for a lack of experience in these areas. Although our main focus is answering biological questions, we are also very interested in people with strong backgrounds outside of biology. Individuals with backgrounds in physics, scientific instrumentation, materials engineering or computer science, who want to gain some experience in the biological sciences are especially encouraged to apply.
